Scene: The Crawford Estate.

Monica slams the door behind her as she quickly follows Sam into the living room. No words can express the pain and guilt she is feeling right now. A million thoughts are running through her mind…how could she have let this happen to her own daughter? Did she really even know Kaylee at all?

"Damn it, Sam. If there’s something you need to say, then by all means, please say it."

"Excuse me?"

"Your little remarks at the hospital have me believing that you were suspecting something for quite some time. Well, now is a little too fucking late, but better now than ever!" Monica raises her voice in frustration.

"Don’t you think I know it’s too late?" Sam mutters from across the room, his back turned to her as he stares in deliberation out the window.

"What happened, Sam? Did she say something to you? Did you see any signs of this coming?"

"Yes, Monica…and there’s not a day that will go by where I won’t feel the guilt of this all…" Sam replies with tears in his eyes.

Monica is silenced as she realizes her husband is crying. In nearly thirty years of marriage, she has never known Sam to shed a single tear.

"Sam, just please tell me….so I can understand."

"We went to a therapy session together last year. Her therapist had wanted me to come, so I went and-"

"Therapy? Kaylee was in therapy? How could I not know?!" Monica scoffs.

"She was diagnosed with clinical depression and bi-polar disorder. She was very leery about telling anyone and only wanted to keep it between us," Sam reveals.

Monica shakes her head in disbelief. "Are you fucking serious? You kept such a big thing about our own daughter from me. And now this? Now she’s killed herself because you didn’t want to let me in on something that I think is pretty damn important. I could have done something, damn it! Now we’ll never know, will we?"

"I suppose we won’t, Monica…"

"One thing’s for sure," Monica continues. "I know there’s not a day in your life that you won’t regret not doing something about it. And that, my friend, is something you’re going to have to live with…"

Monica storms out of the room and marches upstairs where she cries herself to sleep. Sam, meanwhile, opens a bottle of Jack and decides to deal with his pain in another way.
