Scene: The Condo
of Brian Hart and Noah Locke.
"Babe?" Noah shocks Brian by his sudden appearance behind him. "I have a few damn questions of my own."
Brian
looks once again his phone as he contemplates answering it. Everything in him is telling him that it’s a bad idea, but something in him is craving the drama that might ensue if Noah finds out. Perhaps Adam’s friendship kept things lively in his relationship with Noah- the sneaking around, the intense attraction, the juggling game.
However, Brian knew he crossed the line a few years ago when he and Adam brought things to the next level. And he couldn’t bear looking into the tearful eyes of Noah
when he found out…Brian never wanted to go through something like that.
But what the hell, he thinks, you only live once right?
"This is Brian," he quickly responds before the fifth ring.
"Hey Bri. I’m sorry to bother you…I just really needed a friend to call. I didn’t know who else I could call who would understand things…"
Brian could sense that something was terribly wrong with Adam. A look of worry consumes his face as he responds, "Adam, what’s going on? Please tell me exactly what’s going on. You don’t sound good."
"It’s Kaylee. She’s….she’s….she’s dead, Bri. Oh God, she’s really gone…"
Brian could barely make out Adam’s words which were muddled down with tears. A feeling of shock tears through his body. For the first time, Brian is speechless. He has no idea what he could say to make Adam feel better…the only thing he could do is try his best to be there for Adam. It was time to be a good friend again. No more games.
"Bri?" Adam mutters after a few moments.
"Yes, I’m here. Oh God Adam, I am so sorry. I don’t know what to say….I mean, this is such a shock. How did it happen?"
"She did it, Bri. She killed herself. I still don’t understand how her life could have been that bad. I mean, none of us had a single clue. She was always so cheerful and positive on the outside. She was often the one I would go to when I needed someone to cheer me up….I mean, this just makes no sense at all. I’m left with so many questions…"
"I think we’re all left with questions, Adam. I’m so sorry, babe…"

"Oh shit…Noah, not now. This is important."
"Get the hell off the phone, Brian. I can’t believe you’re talking to him again. You just don’t get it, do you? After all these promises you made…"
"Adam, I’m really sorry. I need to go. I’ll call you later."
"The hell you won’t!" Noah screams.
"Look, his-"
"His what? His life is in such peril that you needed to once again be there for him? Do you remember how the fucker seduced you and nearly broke us up? No Brian, this is not for negotiation. I thought we agreed Adam was out of our lives…was I wrong?"
"Damn it, Noah. If you just give me a second to speak I will tell you what’s going on."
"No need to, Brian. I know exactly what’s going on. I don’t have stupid written all over my face. I’m out. Peace."
Brian sighs as Noah walks out and slams the door behind him.
Great, Brian thinks, this is just what he needed now…
