Scene: South Beach Memorial.

Adam slowly walks through the familiar corridors of South Beach Memorial. Having worked there for quite a few years, his stomach begins to grow queasy at the thought of various things he had encountered in the hospital. He remembers how frightened and distraught family members of victims would become when they came through those very doors.

Of course, now he was a in a very different predicament. It was now he who was walking through those doors as the family member of a loved one. It is he that has become frightened and distraught at the thought of losing a loved one. He realizes that it hasn’t really sunken in yet- at least not until he sees his parents pacing the halls that lie before him.

" Mom …" he finally forces himself to utter when he grows near. He’s so torn up inside that his speech feels altered and hard to come by.

"Oh Adam!" Monica cries out as she embraces him with a warm hug.

"I still….I can’t….I can’t believe this has happened…" Adam replies as he shoots a quick glance at his father .

Sam is completely silent. No words can express the feelings of pain and guilt he is feeling at this point.

"Tell me exactly what happened. Was she angry? Sad? How could she have done this? Did something happen?" Monica bombards her son with questions.

"Mom, I don’t’ know…I don’t know anything! I saw her earlier that day and she seemed fine. The next thing I know, Nick raced into the house and was all worried about her. Apparently he got some text from her that frightened him. The next thing I know, we open her bathroom door and she’s…she’s…"

"Oh baby…" Monica holds her son tightly as tears begin to emerge in both of their eyes.

"Damn it! I knew that boy had something to do with this…I never felt right about him. He had to have pushed her too far this time," Monica lashes out as she looks her husband in the eyes.

"No, Monica. It was much deeper than that…"

"Excuse me? Sam, so help me, if you know something you need to put it on the table now."

"I can’t say, Monica. I just know my daughter and Kaylee wouldn’t do something like this because of some fight."

"Well, then what was it?" Monica demands.

Sam looks back at her in silence. He finally opens his mouth to speak after a few moments. "I guess we’ll never know, Monica. We can blame whomever we want to because we’re angry…but the truth is, we will never know…"
