Scene: Nick Schneider's car.
Nick
can't stop thinking of the way Kaylee
handled the news earlier today. Although she has been on shaky ground fighting her own personal demons, Nick thought that new scenery might just be the ticket for them both. When he was told last week that he would be receiving the promotion at work, he instantly realized it would allow him and Kaylee to finally have a house of their own, marry, and hopefully have a family of their own. Of course, the promotion would move them across the country and the news seemed quite unsettling for his girlfriend.
While he hadn't fully accepted the offer yet, it was definitely consuming his mind nearly every second of the day. He just needed Kaylee's buy-in at this point- he certainly wasn't going to lose her over this and wasn't planning on leaving unless he has her by his side.
His phone vibrates, breaking his train of thought, and he quickly notices it's from Kaylee. He opens the text message and is a bit perplexed when he reads it.
"I just wanted you to know I will always love you. Please don't ever hate me for what I have to do. You have truly been my rock and I wouldn't have gotten this far if didn't have a presence in my life."
Nick suddenly feels sick to his stomach. Was this her way of breaking up with him? No, it simply couldn't. After all they had been though, there was no way that Kaylee would be this immature as to breakup with him over a text message. There was simply no possibility.
Of course, this meant that it could mean something quite worse. Was Kaylee truly that upset about the revelation earlier? What was she capable of doing?
These thoughts run through Nick's head as he quickly turns the car around and heads back to Kaylee's apartment. He has to figure out what's going on with her before it's too late…
Moments later he arrives at her complex and parks his car. After three loud knocks, Adam, Kaylee's brother and roommate, finally opens the door.
"Hi again….is everything okay? You seem a bit worried about something," Adam says.
"I really need to see Kaylee. Is she here?"
"Yeah, but I don't think she wants to be disturbed. I'm pretty sure she's taking a bath and is trying to relax." Adam reveals.
A look of dread takes over Nick's face as he rushes to her bedroom. As he nears her bathroom door, he looks down and realizes the carpet is soaking wet. The bath water had gone underneath the door and was creeping into the bedroom.
Nick quickly calls for Adam to help aid him in getting the door open. He continues to call for Kaylee, but there is no answer beyond the locked door…
