![]() A thick blanket of fog covers the coastal community as Ashley Davison drives up the steep highway and takes the exit towards the cemetery. She can't believe that it's been 9 weeks since she lost a part of her heart that can never be replaced. She still finds herself waking up in the middle of the nigh in a deep sweat reliving the horrible moments that led up to the revelation that her child had died at birth. Ashley turns the key slowly and takes a deep breath before exiting her vehicle. Eerie shadows make themselves present down the narrow path as she makes her way to her child's grave site. The gate creaks as she opens it and she continues down the pathway. She soon stops at her son's tombstone that is adorned with a variety of flowers. She quickly drops to her knees and begins sobbing uncontrollably. Will it ever get easier? Will she ever get the chance to sleep a full night ever again? She begins to seriously doubt the answer will ever be yes as she takes a few flowers and arranges them in front of the grave. Moments later her heart stops when she hears a familiar voice from behind? "Ash...for some reason I knew you would be here." "Joe? ? What are you doing here?" ![]() "I needed to see you and I know you've been coming here a lot. You won't return my calls?I know it's hard, but I want to be there for you." "Saying it's something that's simply hard to deal with is the biggest understatement...and I'm sorry I didn't return your calls, Joe. I guess we all have our own ways of dealing with things. My way is to shut everyone out...I'm sorry. It's not fair to you." "I understand. You don't need to apologize, Ash..." Joe takes a few strands of her hair and gently pulls them behind her ears. "You've never looked so beautiful..." "You have to be kidding, right? I can only imagine how bad my mascara is running right now?Jesus, I probably look like a fucking clown right about now." "Don't mention clowns, hon...you know how petrified I was by that one Stephen King movie..." Ashley finally cracks a smile. For the first time in months her smile seems genuine and not forced to some degree. She finally realizes that Joe's presence could actually be a good thing and not necessarily a horrible reminder of what could have been. "Come on. Why don't we go back to the house? I know your grandmother is fixing up a nice meal for the family. It would be great if we could enjoy a meal again. Enjoy it like before..." "Before we lost our son? Our beautiful boy..." tears begin to emerge once again as Ashley looks at the tombstone. "Come on, babe. Let's get out of here. It's time we face reality and try to pick up the pieces." ______________________________________________________________ Diane Davison starts to rub her eyes and as she looks at her watch she realizes three hours have gone by. She can't remember how many sleepless nights she has had in the last few months since she got word of the fire. In one horrid moment she nearly lost her ex-husband
and her daughter...but who actually knew what happened to Kimberly
? It had now been over two months since anyone had heard from the twenty-seven year old blonde that she had tried to steer in the right direction.
Diane shakes her
head and horrific thoughts fly through her head as she imagines pushing
Stacey out the window of the twenty-sixth floor room. Instead she deems it
fit to raise her right hand and knock some sense into the rookie.
Before Stacey has time to react, Diane slaps her hard across the face. "I think it would be in your best interest to stay the hell away from here, okay? On that note, I need to get going. I have a family to be with. You should try spending some time with yours, and so God help me, I really hope you don't show that disgusting little face the next time I'm here." With that said, Diane quickly whips around and gives Steve a kiss on the forehead before exiting the room. -- Next -- |
